‘Bad Motherfucker’

A conversation with journalist Gavin Edwards about his great Samuel L. Jackson experiment

Samuel L. Jackson is a Bad Motherfucker. Not surprisingly, author Gavin Edwards, who’s previously written books about Tom Hanks and Mr. Rogers, came to that conclusion while writing a sort-of biography of who he calls ‘The Coolest Man in Hollywood”. He titled his book “Bad Motherfucker,” and makes a persuasive case. The book contains lots of fascinating biographical information about Samuel L. Jackson, from his early days as a working theater actor in Atlanta to his current status as global megastar. No other actor can lay claim to being a fixture in Spike Lee and Quentin Tarantino movies, and also a key character in both the Star Wars and Marvel Cinematic Universe sagas.

Bad Motherfucker

Edwards distinguishes himself from the celebrity-biography pack with a comprehensive rundown of every movie in which Samuel L. Jackson as ever appeared. That’s more than 150 titles. Everyone has spent their COVID era in a different way, but Edwards chose to spend it by watching Samuel L. Jackson movies. I can think of few better ways to spend your time.

I talked with Edwards about his book, but mostly about Samuel L. Jackson movies. I hope you enjoy listening to this Book and Film Globe audio presentation as much as I enjoyed doing it. ‘Bad Motherfucker’ is out today from Hachette Books.
