Much Ado About Chris Pratt

Is he a Republican? Who cares?

The Internet has dubbed Chris Pratt the “worst Hollywood Chris.” The Avengers star is under fire after he made a joke about voting earlier this summer, then didn’t attend a fundraiser with his Avengers co-stars and Kamala Harris.

The fallout started with a tweet featuring photos of Pratt, Chris Pine, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth. The caption was “one has to go,” and apparently the people of social media decided that Pratt is the choice.

Chris Pratt

Pratt, the former Parks and Recreation breakout character who plays Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers and also stars in the Jurassic World and Lego Movie franchises, has yet to endorse a candidate in the presidential race, a fact that led many people to decide he supports Donald Trump. He’s also married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, the daughter of former California Governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. While the elder Schwarzenegger is a Republican, Katherine endorsed Joe Biden in this election.

As Pratt was dealing with social media attacks, many of his Avengers co-stars jumped to his defense. Zoe Saldana, Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo all took to social media to say positive stuff about Pratt.

“I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life,” Ruffalo wrote on Twitter. “He is just not overtly political as a rule. This is a distraction. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize, friends. We are so close now.”

Downey, Saldana and Ruffalo were part of the virtual fundraiser with Harris that Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, and the Russo brothers also attended.

Chris Pratt

Pratt has almost never made public comments about his politics, and according to Vox he’s made donations to both Democrats and Republicans. There are all sorts of rumors swirling about his leanings, but the reality is that no one really knows. The question sparked this article, in case you’d like to know everything you could possibly know about whether or not Chris Pratt is indeed a Republican.

On Oct. 2, Pratt shared an Instagram post asking people to vote for Onward–the Pixar film he starred in earlier this year–for the People’s Choice Awards.

“With all that’s going on in the world it is more important than ever that you vote,” he wrote. “Just ask any celebrity. They will tell you. Every day. Several times a day. To vote. But me? I will tell you EXACTLY who to vote for. #onward The heroes before us did not spill their blood only to have their sacrifices wasted by your apathy.

Many fans saw this as “insensitive” to the upcoming election, and it’s now part of the ever-growing list of reasons why Pratt is taking heat on social media.

No word from Pine, Hemsworth or Evans on the shift in the incredibly important Hollywood Chris rankings.
